Lieutenant Dana C. Strickland - MIDWAY - On February 7, 2014, Lieutenant Dana C. Strickland lost a nine month battle with pancreatic cancer. His valiant effort to overcome this illness will forever be remembered to those close to him. Lieutenant Strickland was 52 years old. Dana was born in Savannah, Georgia, to parents Mrs. Jowanna Kicklighter Strickland and the late Mr. Carroll H. Strickland. Dana started out bagging groceries at M&M Grocery and transitioned into an Auto Service Tech. He then put himself through the Georgia Basic Law Enforcement Course and began a very successful career as a Police Officer. He began his law enforcement career with the Chatham County Sheriff's Department and then at the Bryan County Sheriff's Department. He spent the later part, and majority years of service, at the Richmond Hill Police Department - where he worked his way up to lead the Criminal Investigations Division until the time he fell ill. He is described, by co-workers, as a man of integrity, honesty, responsibility, and a devoted individual who provided a positive example of what every law enforcement officer strives to be. He will be sadly missed by all. Dana is survived by his loving wife, Bernadette (Bernie) Cole Strickland, his step children, Stacy Michelle Ward Weis and Michael Kelly Ward (Sonya Carter Ward). He was a proud Papa to eight granddaughters, Brittany, Lauren, Hannah, Alyssa, Kara, Hayley, Taylor and Jenna. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jowanna Kicklighter Strickland, and sister Cheri Dorondo (David Dorondo) and niece India; as well as, Uncle(s) Warren Kicklighter (Pam), Elliot Kicklighter (Elaine), Darrell Kicklighter (Debbye) and Aunt Gloria Bishop (Charles); Additionally, Sister-in-Law Frances Cole Black and Brother-in-Law James L. Cole III. His dear friends, Mike, Rex, and Tim will forever remember the good times they shared with Dana. Dana is preceded in death by his father, Carroll H. Strickland, his aunt Thelma Speir, and dear friends, Wesley Spivey and Terry Nielsen. Dana had a love for fast cars, fast motorcycles, and fast boats. He enjoyed the majestic mountains and mighty oceans. The family would like to express our gratitude to the support given from the Richmond Hill Police Department, the City of Richmond Hill and the volunteers/contributors for the, Run For Dana. The overwhelming support was given in the beginning and remains in effect today. The visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12th, from 6pm till 8pm, at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at the St. Anne's Catholic Church's Holy Family Hall on Thursday, February 13th, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family would request remembrances sent to The Nancy and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion, the 200 Club, or the First Freewill Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia.
