Mr. Gerald James Edwards - POOLER - Mr. Gerald James Edwards, 92, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at The Place at Pooler. Mr. Jerry Papa was born in Monmouth, IL to the late James & Gladys Edwards. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jaudon Edwards and a son, Joseph Jaudon Edwards. He was raised in the Iowa Solder's Children's Orphanage and had made his home in the Savannah area since 1951 where all of his children were born. He was the oldest living member of Rothwell Baptist Church where he had taught the Senior Men's Sunday School Class. He served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific Theater supporting his bomber squadron and over Vietnam during that conflict as part of a flight crew. He retired from the Air Force and also from Gulfstream where he was an aircraft inspector. He was a member of the Pooler Senior Citizens and a volunteer at The Place at Pooler. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeri E. & Ronnie King of Pooler and Suzanne E. & Ed Burrow of Jacksonville, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Dale J. & Pam Edwards of Jacksonville, FL; daughter-in-law, Ricki Edwards; grandchildren, Melissa & Richard Linton, Walter & Dana King, Stephanie & Jeff Hoff, Shannon & Matt Lee, Jennifer & Bryan Hill and Megan & Pat Barbee; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Patrick, Trista, Sydnee, Logan, Ella, Brooklyn, Alexis, Ethan and one on the way as well as several cousins. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral: 2 p.m. on Thursday at Rothwell Baptist Church with burial to follow at Greenwich Cemetery with military honors.
