Hilda Smith Obituary

Hilda Quinn Smith - SAVANNAH - Hilda Quinn Smith, 88, died Friday, December 9, 2011 at Memorial Hospital to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born September 28, 1923 in Harlem, GA, lived in Augusta, GA for forty-three years, and the past forty-five years in Savannah. She completed her education at Tubman High, an all girls school, in Augusta, GA. She worked at Sears as a Merchandise Manager during her husband's tour of duty during WW II and upon his return became a homemaker and loving mother of five. She was a member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church and served as Training Union Leader and sang in the church choir before her declining health. She was a member of the Savannah Department of Leisure Services Ceramics and won numerous awards at the Savannah Civic Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph G. smith. Survivors are sons, Ralph G. Smith, Jr. (Carolyn), Michael W. Smith (Dell), David Q. Smith (Ruth) and Jeff K. Smith (Kay); daughter, Linda Dianne Youmans (Warren) all of Savannah, along with eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Immanuel Baptist Church on Hodgson Memorial Dr. with Dr. Morgan Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances be made to Immanuel Baptist Church and the American Heart Association.
