Marion Earl Boyd, Jr. - SAVANNAH - Marion Earl Boyd, Jr., 85, a lifelong resident of Savannah, died August 30, 2013. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific and in Korea. A member of the Wilmington Island United Methodist Church, he served as President of the Seekers Class and an active member of Senior Friendship Days. A lover of the waters and islands of the area, he was employed as a yacht captain for many years. An avid reader, he loved mysteries and history books along with his newspaper. Surviving are his wife, Mary F. Beard Boyd; a sister, Betty Durfey; children, Elizabeth B. Houston (Charles), Darien, GA, Marion E. Boyd III, Savannah, GA, Donna B. Holland (David) Chester, VA; grandchildren, Heather Houston-Meeks (Billy), Charles Houston III (Chizu), Alyssa Holland, Rachael Holland, Christine Boyd and three great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Wilmington Island United Methodist Church. Visitation at 10 a.m., prior to service.
