Martha Joe Furlong
February 1, 2010
Mr. Liles you don't know me, but my name is Martha Joe Leybourne Furlong. My father, Jim Leybourne, was Weesie's younger brother. I lived in Miami, Fl up until a few years ago. My sister, Sylvia Leybourne Carnes and my niece, Evelyn Kelly live in Cheasapeak, Va. and saw the obiturary in the paper. Although, I had not seen Dickie in many years, I so treasure our growing up years in Brunswick. I am so sorry for your loss and would have loved to have known her as a grown woman. She obviously was a wonder wife, mother and a out going human being to her fellow man. I did stay close to Allie and Pat and miss them so much. I am 2 years older than Dickie. I was between Jackie, Charlotte, myself, then Dickie. Granddaddy had his hands fulls with all of us girls and Aunt Weesie was one of the sweetest people ever born. Seeing Dickie's picture I sure can see the family resemblance between she, Allie and her mother. I haven't seen Jackie in I don't know how many years. My condolences to you and your family . Martha Joe Leybourne Furlong, Lake Worth, Fl.

Hey Jack, Somewhere up there I betcha Dickie and Nancy are yacking it up. I'm terribly sorry for your loss Jack, and I can truly say I know what you are going through. Dickie was a true southern lady and will be missed by so many, but not forgotten. You and I are going to have to be there for each other in the coming weeks and months. So please call on me when you feel the need for a friend to talk with. I'll be there. May God be with you and your family in your time of need. Your friend, Bill Hughes

In our lifetime we meet and surround ourselves with many accquaintances, and if we are lucky a few become our friends. My friendship with Dickie was true and treasured. When she and Jack left the Va. Beach area in May, 1990, we visited and said our goodbyes at their home. We stayed in touch with cards and phone calls; to know that I will never see my friend again saddens me but I will always be so grateful to have had this sweet person as my true and treasured friend.

Dickie Liles has been in my life for many years -- back when I was in high school at Kempsville Hi, in Va. Beach, VA. She and my mom had many a luncheon date...chatting about all sorts of things and I was lucky to attend many of them..just listening to them, and laughing with them both. Dickie meant alot to my mom and to myself...Dickie enriched my memories of growing up in the Larkspur neighborhood. I haven't seen Dickie since she moved away from this area but I stayed in touch through cards and emails when I could. I miss her smile and her gestures and her sense of humor. Dickie, I miss you already.
