Ms. Stella Ferguson - SAVANNAH - Ms. Stella Ferguson entered eternal rest on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at her residence under the care of Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She was a native of Savannah, GA and attended the public schools in Chatham County and was a graduate of Mather Boarding School in Beaufort, SC and a received a BS Degree from Bennett College of Greensboro, NC, Masters of Science Ed Degree from New York State University in New Paltz, NY. She was the first African American to join the Peace Corp from Savannah, GA. Stella's Peace Corp experience allowed her to tour the entire continent of East, West, and South Africa as a Biology Teacher. After teaching in Effingham County she did research at Boston Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Mass. studying a cure for crippling disease. She was a member of Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served on the Pastor's Aide Board, Church and Conference Choirs and a Class Leader. Survivors are: one sister, Anna E. Ferguson of Savannah, GA, nephews, Charles Ferguson (Betty) of Garden City, GA, Eddie Ferguson (Francina) of Savannah, GA, Marty G. Ferguson (Joyce) of CA, Lawrence G. Ferguson of Newton, KA, nieces, Ida H. Wilton (Leroy) of Baltimore, MD, Maralene F. Ferguson- Bates of Decatur, GA, Marsha G.
