Taso John Stoupenos - FLORENCE, SC - Taso John Stoupenos, 80, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in a local hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013, in the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church in Florence. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home. The family is receiving friends at the home of Johnny Stoupenos, 1220 Wisteria Drive, Florence. Mr. Stoupenos was born in Strovolos, Cyprus, a son of the late John L. and Loukia Hadjioannou Stoupenos. He attended the Carolina College of Commerce in Florence, and served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany in the Military Police. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years. He was a member of the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church. He was a Mason, a member of Amity Lodge #340. He was a member and past president of the Pee Dee Shrine Club. He was a member of the Provost Guard Unit, and served twice as director and secretary/treasurer. He also served on the staff of many Potentates. He was also a member of the Florence chapter of APWU, and served as president until his health failed, and also served as a board member of the Sixth Postal Credit Union. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Watts Stoupenos, of the home; a son, Johnny (Robin) Stoupenos of Florence; two brothers, Marion (Leah) Stoupenos of Savannah, GA, and Lukie (Theresa) Stoupenos of Columbia, SC; and two grandchildren, Leigh (Travis) Copeland of Florence, and Matthew Stoupenos of Ft. Collins, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Transfiguration of Our Savior Church, 2990 S. Cashua Drive, Florence, SC 29501; or to the Omar Shrine Temple, 176 Patriot Point, Mt.
