Rev. Thomas Ovid Burke - TALLAHASSEE, FL - Rev. Thomas Ovid Burke, 54, of Tallahassee, Fla, and formerly of Savannah, Ga., died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Fla. He was born in Savannah, Ga., December 23, 1958, and was preceded in death by his father, Robby Wray Burke, Sr., and his father in law, Malcolm Helmly. Thomas was a graduate of Armstrong State Atlantic College, where he received an Associate of Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor of Criminal Justice Degree. He also attended Florida Baptist Theological College (now Baptist College of Florida), where he received an Associate of Divinity, and Bachelor of Religious Education Degree. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary, where he received his Masters Degree in Religious Education. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Fla, where he served as Minister of Students. Thomas, prior to entering the ministry, was employed by the Savannah Police Department for 10 years. Thomas grew up in Taliaferro Baptist Church, where he was very active in the Sunday School, Church Training Department, the Men's Club, and the Sanctuary Choir. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sabrina Helmly Burke, of Tallahassee, Fla; 2 sons, Jason Burke (Becki), and Brian Burke (Megan), his mother, Martha Jane Hutchinson Burke, brother, Rev. Robby Wray Burke, Jr., (Karen), and his sister, Holly Burke Walden (Mark), two grandchildren, Clayton and Allie.. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Rev. Steve Taylor, Rev. Jeff Rollins, and Rev. Doyle Bell. Interment: Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
