Victoria Boykin Buck Obituary
Victoria Boykin Buck, 64, of Savannah, died June 9, 2018 at Hospice Savannah, after a year long battle with cancer. Gone too soon and a fighter until the end. Vicky was such a vivacious, incredible, intelligent and genuine person. Her charm and personality are the reason she had so many friends and if you knew Vicky you loved Vicky.

Vicky grew up in Mountain Lakes (ML), NJ, and attended ML schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. Vicky participated in intramural sports, the drama programs, and in high school she was part of the Girls Athletic Association annual show as a member of Blue Team tumbling and the tap squad. She was also an avid supporter of all the MLHS sports teams. Vicky attended Westbrook Junior College (Portland, ME), Arizona State University, and received her BBA with a focus on marketing from Savannah State University.

During her college years, she lived for a time in Menlo Park, CA, near her beloved Aunt Plum and cousin, David whom she absolutely adored. She loved to recall a fun memory. While working as a drive-up bank teller, her regular customer (usually on a motorcycle) was Apple founder, Steve Jobs.

With her roots in Savannah, Vicky settled there during college and began her career in sales and marketing in the travel business. In the early years she went to work and helped to start up the 1st carriage company in Savannah, Historic Savannah Carriage Tours as a horse and buggy tour guide. From 2001 to 2007, she was Director of Marketing for Old Savannah Tours. Vicky worked for the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Inc. as Membership Coordinator for 3 plus years from 2008 - 2012. Alongside of that, in 2009- 2012, she served as an Operations and Sales Coordinator for Tybee Island Tourism Council. Chamber management remembers her as, "A great representative for our destination, (Savannah) and through her warm and exuberant personality, generated huge exposure for Tybee Island through her years of experience and connections in the local, regional and state tourism community. Vicky possessed superior sales skills and had a natural ability to connect with individuals on a professional, social and emotional level. Many called her a friend".

She resigned from the Chamber in the spring of 2012 to pursue her dream of becoming a certified professional group tour director and was accepted to the International Tour Management Institute in San Francisco for training. After attaining Tour Director Certification as a tour and travel professional, Vicky did contract marketing for the tourism and hospitality industries, capping off more than 25 years as a professional tour guide by providing tours in Washington, D.C. and New York City.

She was a member of several organizations, including the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, the Savannah Downtown Business Association (SDBA) and the Tourism Leadership Council (TLC). She served the hospitality industry in numerous ways, including as a Chamber Ambassador, as a board member for the SDBA and as a board member and member of several committees for the TLC. In recognition of her outstanding contributions of consistent dedication, she was named Member of the Year by the Tourism Leadership Council in 2008. She also volunteered for the American Diabetes Association's "Kiss a Pig campaign".

Aside from her business travel, Vicky was often on the road visiting friends around the U.S., and she headed back to Mountain Lakes at every opportunity. She also blazed through Europe with her Mom before her Mom's passing in 2010. In recent years, a spirited football fan, she followed the fortunes of the University of Georgia Bulldogs (of course) as well as her father's alma mater, the University of Illinois. Vicky looked forward to participating in an annual gathering of her high school girlfriends. These 3-4 day reunions renewed old friendships and created new memories among her New Jersey friends. Vicky also enjoyed going to visit her wonderful friends in Arizona and cousin in California. Her education in marketing and the hospitality industry took her many places in the world. She loved people and she loved to travel. She also had so many she called family in Savannah. Her "1790"/ downtown / Tybee family, as well as her very strong hospitality family, which through this last year have all now become forever bound together as friends. Vicky had that infectious way of bringing all together as one. She had a boisterous wonderful laugh and when she laughed you couldn't help but laugh with her. She was always the center of any gathering. She warmed any room and embraced everyone around her. She was a treasure and deep rooted (indescribable) in the hearts of all of her "Peeps".

Vicky was predeceased by her parents, Robert D. and Mathilde Howard Buck, formerly of Savannah, and is survived by her sister in law, Barbara Evans of Savannah, niece and nephew, Mathilde Finke of Atlanta, and Trey Evans of Savannah, 1st cousins, David Budge of Laguna Niguel CA, Donald Budge of Brentwood CA, Douglas and Phillip Budge both of San Francisco CA.
