Jacquelyne Jackie Millar - SAVANNAH - Jacquelyne Jackie Millar peacefully entered Heaven's gates at Hospice Savannah on March 20, 2014. Jackie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Ralph E. Millar Jr. She was also preceded in death by by two brothers, John DeLeon Matthews Jr. and Loraine O. Matthews. Jackie was born in Lake City South Carolina and grew up in the neighboring town of Timmonsville and was a graduate of Winthrop College. She and Ralph were married in 1949 and moved to Savannah in 1953. Jackie was a homemaker for many years but eventually found her calling as a substitute teacher in the Chatham County School System. Jackie had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, and over the years, she and husband Ralph were involved in many church activities. Churchgoers will remember the wonderful senior trips Ralph and Jackie led for years. Jackie and Ralph loved to travel, but they still found time in retirement to serve their community, both working with the Juvenile Court to ensure the well-being of Savannah's most at risk children. Jackie is survived by her son Alan R. Millar of Savannah; her daughter, Janet Millar of Augusta; two grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan, and Ryan's wife Cathleen; and her daughter-in-law, Becky Millar. Visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery, Dean Forest Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Southside Baptist Church, 5502 Skidaway Road, Savannah, GA 31406 or to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Southside Baptist Church.
