Marion Lowe Obituary
Marion Joseph Lowe - SAVANNAH - Marion Joseph Lowe, 85, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Memorial Medical University surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was born December 20, 1928, in Savannah where he lived all of his life. He attained the rank of Major in the National Guard and served his country for twenty-two years. He graduated as an honor student from Benedictine Military School where he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. He lettered in all four sports and was selected as Captain of each team. Marion Lowe worked at Kaiser Chemical Company and retired after 35 years of loyal service. After retirement, he began a second career at Georgia Ports Authority retiring in May, 2012. His dedication to this job earned him the distinguished recognition as Man of the Year awarded by the International Long Shoreman Association, Local 1475 in December, 2012. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and an active supporter of Benedictine Military School. He was an avid golfer and formerly owned Savannah Golf Shop. He was a past member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Marion Lowe was a devoted husband and father whose faith, character, and work ethic inspired and touched the lives of those who knew him. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Stacy Ann Kessler. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Gloria Goodwin Lowe of Savannah; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Lowe (Dean) of Tybee Island and Bill Lowe (Marian) of Franklin, TN; four daughters and sons-in-law, Patty King of Spartanburg, SC, Ann Kessler (Fred) of Savannah, Sue Henderson (Doug) of Winston Salem, NC, and Kelly Lowe of Savannah; twelve grandchildren; Patrick and Erin Lowe of Tybee Island, Kristen King of Apex, NC, Ray King, III of Charleston, SC, Caroline King of Atlanta, Catherine Kessler Hopewell (Jason) of Rincon, Claudia Kessler Faller (Captain Blake) and Dr. Beau Kessler (Jessica), both of Savannah, Anna Brantley (Dane) of Charlotte, NC, Conley Henderson of Winston Salem; Brittney Elliott (Grant) of Nashville and Dawson Lowe of Franklin, his great-grandchildren include Stacy Ann Hopewell of Rincon, Carter Patnaude, Brileigh Ann Faller and Anna Kate Kessler, all of Savannah. On Friday, March 28th , the family will receive friends at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Ronald Gattman, OBS at 11:00 a .m. on Saturday, March 29, at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Fogarty. Raymond King, Jr, Richard Lutz, Jr, John Mell, Richard Silva, Tommy Stacy, Mike Stroud, and O.C. Welch, III Remembrances may be made in his memory to The Marion Joseph Lowe Scholarship Fund at Benedictine Military School, 6502 Seawright Drive, Savannah, GA. 31406.
