Ruth Carter Whitten - SAVANNAH - Ruth Carter Whitten, 86, of Savannah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Frederick R. Whitten. Ruth was born and raised in New London, CN and attended local school. In 1979, she and Fred moved to Savannah and both went to work for H & R Block, Ruth retired from there after 30 years of service as a tax preparer. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church and was in the Hannah Sunday School Class, a member of Hemerocallis Society (Day Lily). Ruth's love for growing prize winning lilies had a lily named after her. She also loved to train Labradors. She is survived by a brother, Robert Carter of Uncasville, CN; a sister, Beverly Kiliveros of Myrtle Beach, SC; a nephew and neice, Jeffrey and Debbie Peckeroff of Savannah and other relatives. On Monday morning, May 5, 2014, from 9:00a.m. to 10:00a.m. there will be a visitation and at 10:00a.m. a Funeral Service in the Chapel of Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel. Burial will follow at 12:00p.m. in the National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contribution may be made in Ruth C.
