Mr. James Wesley Mitchell - POOLER - Mr. James Wesley Mitchell passed away on May 8, 2014 at his home. He was born on May 19, 1932, to Coy and Dessie Ennis Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church; and for as long as his health permitted, he was a faithful member of the Victory Sunday School Class with Pastor Tommy East. He retired from Union Camp after forty years. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1956, receiving many Korean War medals and commendations. His primary service was on the U.S.S. Hector (AR-7) and U.S.S. Ajax (AR-6), whose home port was in Japan. He was a member of the Elite Flag Unit, serving with Fleet Admiral William F. Halsey. While in Japan, he met and married Tomoko Yoshika Nagashima. They were married for forty-one years and were parents of five children, two of whom died in infancy. He is also predeceased by his parents and four sisters. Surviving are his wife of seventeen years, Patricia Boatright Mitchell; daughter, Marcia Strickland and her husband, Bobby; son, William and his wife Emma. His son Jimmy Lynn passed away on May 8th, at Candler Hospital, four hours after his father's passing. Also surviving are step-daughters, Lynne Boatright and Cathye Rhodes; step-son, Chester (Butch) Boatright and his wife, Susan; grandchildren, Wesley Horton, Amy Horton Edenfield, Christopher Mitchell, Coy Mitchell, John Peacock, Rev. Travis Peacock, Rev. Kenneth Peacock, Miranda Peacock, Beth Boatright, Chad Boatright, and Drew Boatright, as well as ten great-grandchildren. Visitation: 12-2 p.m. on Monday in the chapel of the funeral home. Funeral: 2 p.m. on Monday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Ash Branch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
