Virginia Carlisle Obituary
Virginia McGrath Ginger Carlisle - SAVANNAH -Virginia McGrath Ginger Carlisle Ginger's extraordinary and inspiring seven-year battle with cancer ended Thursday evening, June 5, 2014. Her family and friends are grateful for the special time together she won for them as a result of the consistent faith and fierce determination she brought to that battle, and for the support she received from her incredible team of doctors at St. Joseph's Candler. Born and raised in New England, Ginger's 40 plus year career in nursing and hospital administration began in Boston and took her to New York City in 1974, where she met and married her husband, Steve. They moved to Savannah in 1980, and Ginger worked first for Memorial Hospital, then moved to St. Joseph's Candler, retiring just two years ago. Ginger served in several ministries in her Parish of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, including being a Eucharistic Minister. She helped with the Religious Education department for three years, and brought her passion for her Catholic faith to the young people of the Parish. She will be missed. In addition to her husband, Steve, Ginger is survived by her two sisters, Jane Prendergast and Joan Sopp, and three brothers, Bill McGrath, Peter McGrath, and Paul McGrath, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. in the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors. There will be a Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Savannah. Following the Mass, there will be a reception at the Wilmington Island Club. In addition, there will be a Memorial Mass for Ginger at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on Saturday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m., on Martha's Vineyard, Oak Bluffs, MA. Remembrances may be made to the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion, 225 Candler Drive, Savannah, GA 31405, or the St. Joseph's/ Candler Foundation.
