Samuel Lucas "Sammy" Stiles - SAVANNAH - Samuel Lucas "Sammy" Stiles, 91, passed away on February 25, 2008 at Savannah Specialty Care Center. The Savannah, GA, native was born on February 10, 1917 to the late John R. Stiles, Sr. and Lucille Lucas Stiles. Sammy was married for 62 years to his beloved wife, Mrs. Mary Edythe Jones Stiles, originally from Augusta, GA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Stiles Pierce; a daughter, Joyce Stiles Burton; and his brother, John R. "Jack" Stiles, Jr. Sammy attended public schools in Savannah and graduated from Cuyler-Beach High School. He graduated from Hampton Institute, Hampton, VA, with a degree in Industrial Arts. He was a veteran of the United States Army and later worked in the family owned electrical business with his brother Jack. For more than 30 years, Sammy served as a vocational educator in the Savannah - Chatham County Public School System teaching at Haven Home, Tompkins High School and Beach High School. He held membership in the Future Farmers of America Organization and the Mutuals Social Club. Sammy was a founding member of the Falcons Social Club. He will be remembered as a dedicated educator, devoted family man and as a person who always had time to lend a helping hand. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Edythe Jones Stiles of Savannah; his two daughters; the Reverend Saundra Stiles (David O.) Thomas of Savannah and Lucille D'Ann Stiles of Savannah; two sisters, Ann Stiles Falconer of Savannah and Geraldine Stiles Murph of Los Angeles, CA.; his granddaughter, Turkessa Burton (Carlo) Crawford of Marietta, GA; two great-grandsons, Bryce Xavier Crawford and Chase Landon Crawford of Marietta, GA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, students, friends and others whose lives he touched. A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2008 at Laurel Grove Cemetery (South) at 3 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to First Congregational Church (United Church of Christ), 421 Habersham Street, Savannah, GA 31401.
