Dear Jewell,

I was saddened to hear that you had lost Calvin. I still don't know any details at this point but I do know your heart must be very heavy right now. I am so glad we had the opportunity to get together at the last class reunion. It was so good to see you and Calvin then.

As you may or may not know, I was hospitalized August 23rd and came very near to meeting Jesus face to face on the 29th. I spent 115 days in the hospital and am in the process of recouperating from the ordeal. I'm having to learn to walk all over again, but I know God has more for me to do, so it will all be better in time.

Speaking of time, they say that time heals all wounds, but I imagine that's pretty hard for you to believe right now. However, I know you had a wonderful life with Calvin and the two of you were blessed with many special years together. Suffice it to say, God has smiled on the two of you over the years. My heart and love are with you and Mary Ann and I will lift you up in prayer that God will give you strength to press on.

Love,

Edward & Mary Ann Minor

Dear Jewel,

You and Calvin have shown me what love for family is all about and what unconditional love is. Ya'll have been so good to me and Jordan. I will never in my lifetime ever forget the love and kindness you have shown us. Your family is in my prayers. You have such good kids. I know you are proud of them. Calvin was such a great role model. He taught me alot. He loved everyone the same, he never showed partiality. Thank you and Calvin for your love and kindness. I miss him terribly. It was hard coming back to work today, but I will do everything I can to keep his vision alive and going. He and the Lord deserve all the credit. We know he was fully devoted to the Lord and His work. Things will not be the same but we know he is in a better place. Our Loss is Gods gain. I Love Ya!

To the family of Calvin Durrence. My granddaddy was Alfred Jarrett Orr, whose farm was next to Segal. Anyway, I have always admired - from a distance - Calvin because of his stand for our Lord and his mission to be a preacher. Yes, God needed him in heaven and we will see him again. I know you don't know me, but I pray for God's strength to be with all of you at this time - strength that only He can give.

God bless you all.

Jewel and Family,

I know the past months have been hard and the days ahead will be harder still. You are loved by a multitude of friends near and far, and that and God's care will strengthen you. I'm in NC with Jill and her family and could not attend Calvin's service. Take care of yourself through these terrible times.

To Mrs. Jewel and the family, Mr. Calvin was an inspiration to me and my family. He was a model of consistency and faith as he lived his life before us. He has set an example for pastors and church leaders to be faithful and fruitful. Mr. Calvin was a man of grace and faith, and it is that same grace and faith that will sustain you in your grief. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think. May God bless you and give you grace in your hour of need to sustain you and comfort you. We love you and we are praying for you.

We are thinking of you and your family during this time of sorrow. I know thoughts and prayers from many people are with you right now. Let these thoughts and prayers help you get through this tough time.

Calvin was always a joy to be around. I never saw him without a smile on his face. You always knew he loved the Lord by his actions, deeds and words. If there is something that could be done to help, remember all you have to do is ask.

Mr. Calvin was a friend, father, mentor to me! I am going to miss his smiling face everytime I go Reidsville or just happen to run into him at a church service somewhere! I loved him with all my heart and I love you the same!

You know where I am if you ever need me.

I know Mr. Calvin is happy where he is and he deserves it very much!

Dear Sister Jewel, Calvin was like a brother to me. He always had a jolly attitude. His favorite verse in the Bible was Proverbs 4: 5& 6. That's what we all have to do each day. He was loved by all that knew him. I as so sorry for you, and I love you. Your baby sister, Pearl
