J.R. Edenfield - METTER - J.R. Edenfield, 87, of Metter died Tuesday, January 01, 2013, at Cedar Plantation. The Candler County native and lifelong resident was the son of William Henry and Myram Addie Grubbs Edenfield. A 1943 graduate of Metter High School, he was an Army veteran of World War II. J.R. and his wife, Hazel, owned and operated Edenfield Grocery for 35 years. He was a master gardener and retired farmer but his greatest pleasure was being a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Edenfield was a member, former deacon and officer of the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Hazel Smith Edenfield; his parents and a sister, Eunice E. Williams. Survivors are four sons; Johnny (Suzzane) Edenfield of Savannah, Bill Edenfield of Metter, Stanley (Joanne) Edenfield of Richmond Hill and Richard (Stacy) Edenfield of Metter; a brother and sister, Jimmie O. Edenfield and Katie E. Lewis both of Millen; four grandchildren, Dawn (Tom) Weaver, Wendy (Jeff) Castille, Jason (Brandi) Edenfield and Justin Edenfield; five great grandchildren, Savannah, Shelby, and Wynn Weaver, Josh Castille and Ethan Edenfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 AM, at the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
