Mrs. Lucy Ann Mendes - SAVANNAH - Mrs. Lucy Ann Mendes, 53, of Savannah, GA, passed away on January 16, 2013. Lucy was born on the Crow Agency Indian Reservation in Billings, Montana on August 25, 1959 to Mrs. Priscilla M. Tripp and Mr. Emmett Other Medicine. When she was young, she moved east with her family and grew up on a small farm in Acushnet, MA. She was a beautiful and exciting young woman who enjoyed arts, gymnastics, swimming and diving at Wareham High School in the nearby town of Wareham, MA. In 1976, she married and had her first child with Mr. Wayne A. Mendes who joined the U.S. Army the same year. They traveled as a young couple to Anchorage, AL, to begin their lives together. Through 26 years, Lucy traveled and endlessly supported her husband and loving family all over the world. She was an infinitely strong and caring person and the foundation of her family holding them together in times that were filled with change and adversity. She was an active military wife who enjoyed and was selfless in helping young military wives and soldiers cope with the stresses of army life. Mrs. Mendes was gifted in many talents as an artist, admirer of literature, animal lover, and would often use her talents at the enjoyment of her children in hosting unbelievable birthday parties, graduations, and weddings. She enjoyed the tropics and loved nothing more than a day on a warm sun-soaked beach with her family and loved ones. Mrs. Mendes is survived by her loving husband, Mr. Wayne A. Mendes of Savannah, daughter Ms. Lucia A. Mendes, daughter-in-law Dr. Cindy N. Achat-Mendes, and sons Mr. Keenan W. Mendes and Dr. Shannon W. Mendes. She is also survived by two grandsons Alessandro and Christian Mendes who she, as she often wrote, loved forever, and always plus one day, mother Priscilla M. Tripp, sisters Emory Other Medicine, Rochelle Long Soldier, and Lawanna Other Medicine, and brother Shannon Other Medicine. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salvation Army Georgia, 3100 W. Montgomery St., Savannah, GA 31405 (912)651-7420.
