Henry Karl Huber July 30, 1929 - February 25, 2013 - SAVANNAH - Henry Karl Huber, 83, of Savannah, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at Candler Hospital. He was born on July 30, 1929 in Zurich, Switzerland, to Heinrick Karl Huber and Karolina Civati Huber. Upon completing school and training for the Swiss Army, Henry traveled to Savannah to visit his sister, Carol. Shortly after, Henry was drafted by the United States Army. He trained at Fort Jackson, SC and Fort Eustis, VA. He was then sent to Korea where he served with the 765th Railroad Battalion attaining the rank of Sergeant. After returning to the United States, Henry became a naturalized citizen. He worked as a mechanic at various businesses in Savannah and with the Georgia National Guard. In 1961 he began a thirty year career with the FAA at Travis Field as Flight Equipment Technician. He used his Skills with cars on the pit crew for Roebling, Ware and Reuters, a Savannah team associated with the Sports Car Club of America. Henry was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he married Virginia in 1954, and three daughters were baptized. He served on Church Council as Chairman of Property Committee and Usher team. Henry was a member of the Isle of Hope Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years. A member of The National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Savannah/Ogeechee Canal Society, the German Friendly Society and the Savannah Ski Club. Henry and Virginia Smith Huber, his wife of fifty-eight years, enjoyed building their family homes and renovating several others. In addition to his wife Virginia, he is survived by his daughter: Cynthia Hubert (Karol) Willets, CA, Catherine Huber Lewis (Randy) and Caroline Huber Hester of Savannah, grandchildren Brandon Griffin (Liana), Seattle WA, Elizabeth Sazegari (Ali), Los Altos, CA, Stephanie Lewis Gibson (Kyle) Macon, GA, Levi Lewis, Gainesville, FL, Clayton Hester Fort Jackson, SC,, Great grandsons: Kade Sazegari Los Altos, CA and Deklan Henry Griffin of Seattle, WA, a sister, Carol Maddox (Clyde) Garden City, sister-in-law Linda Larson of Savannah and brother-in-law Wilbur Grove Smith (Chris) of Powell, OH, nieces, nephews and cousins in the US and Switzerland. Henry will be sorely missed by so many who loved and admired him. We will picture him skiing the snow clouds of Heaven and keeping the Pearly Gates well oiled. Honorary Pallbearers: St. Paul's Thursday Work Crew, and members of the Isle of Hope Volunteer Fire Department. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 P.M., on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 10 West 31st Street, Savannah, Ga 31401.
