Joanne Mae Sanders - SAVANNAH - Joanne Mae Sanders passed away August 1, 2013 at her home in Savannah. She was 87. Born June 3, 1926 in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of Col. LaVergne and Mildred Cook. She attended Ohio State University, where she met the love of her life, Lloyd Whitey Sanders. They moved to Rockaway, NJ, where he began his career of 25 years as a doctor of veterinary medicine. Upon retirement in 1977, the Sanders began a motorhome adventure of 25 years, traveling throughout the United States, Canada andMexico. They finally settled down at The Villages in Florida, where they continued their very active lifestyle. She was a lifetime DAR member, an avid golfer, and an expert in sewing crafts. Mrs. Sanders is survived by three daughters, Trish (Jim) Potts of Savannah; Jacqueline Sanders-Allen of Lucas, OH; and Christine (Richard) Sebring of Mechanicsburg, PA and her brother-in-law Hal Tate of Sierra Vista, AZ and her beloved cat, Eclipse. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a sister, Patricia Tate of Sierra Vista, AZ. She had 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Ohio at a later date.
