Peggy Cihla - RINCON - Peggy Cihla (69) of Rincon, Georgia died Monday, March 24th 2014 at home surrounded by family after her battle with Lung & Bone Cancer. Born Margaret Elaine (Peggy) Kilpatrick, a feisty, Irish woman with red hair on October 15th 1944. She met the love her life Joe Cihla, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They married when she was 19 years old in 1964, entering into their 50th year of wedded bliss this year. The couple settled in his hometown of Lonsdale, Minnesota where they had 5 children in 8 years, 3 boys and 2 girls. Peggy went to college AFTER her 5th child was born, first becoming an LPN, then a Registered Nurse. She starting her nursing career at Mala Strana Nursing Home in New Prague, Minnesota, before working at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota for more than 20 years. And never missing a parent teachers conference as well as helping to shuttle 5 kids to various sporting and extra-curricular events. Peggy Cihla also served in the Military as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserves, called to active duty to serve her country during the first Gulf War in 1990-91. Peggy and her husband, Joe relocated to Effingham County in 2004, where she was employed at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah and Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville until her retirement in 2009. Her love, hard work and endless sacrifices were always for her family, which she put first, and cherished until the very end. She is survived by her Husband of 50 years, Joseph, her children, Rick (Kim) Cihla of Hastings, Minnesota, Doug (Denice) Cihla of Rincon, Connie (Vic) Lundquist of Rincon, Mike Cihla of Savannah and Paula Cihla of Springfield. Her 6 grandchildren, Shawn & Andrew Cihla, Danielle & Samantha Lundquist, and Michael & Lisa Cihla, her Step Grandchildren Brandon, Glenn, Michelle Doan and Step Great Grandchild, Carter. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Interment will be in Effingham Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the J.C. Lewis Cancer Pavillion, as well as the wonderful care of Dr. Jennifer Yannucci and Dr. Douglas Mullins. And thanks to the medical care she received at St. Joseph's & Candler Hospitals. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in the name of Peggy Cihla to the J.C.
