Barbara L. GERMAN

GERMAN, Barbara L.

Barbara L. German passed away February 3,, 2013 after a hard fought and courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 8, 1949 in Downey, CA, she lived with her family in La Puente, CA and attended La Puente High School. At 16, she met the love of her life, Darwin. They were married on June 11, 1967. They raised their family in Covina, CA. For over 38 years, her house was home to many extended family and friends. She was a woman of great faith and was a shining example of God's love. Her love, compassion and generosity were unparalleled. She never treated anyone like an outsider. Instead, she made you feel at ease and at home through her naturally hospitable personality and wonderful, sometimes off-color, sense of humor. She had a great smile and infectious laugh; and she laughed with abandon and often. She always put others before herself. She was always concerned with how other people felt, what they needed, and how she could help make their situation better. This ranged from providing a meal and movie to living under her roof rent free until you got on your feet. She loved movies, acting, singing at the top of her lungs, the theater, and musicals. She was sentimental and nostalgic and enjoyed history through visiting old movie palaces, cathedrals in Europe, lighthouses and participating in Civil War reenactments . She was the ultimate grandma and was extremely proud of all her grandchildren. She was a bright light in many lives and with her passing, many feel their lives a little dimmer without her effervescent presence and constant love. She will be missed greatly and cherished always.
Barbara is predeceased by her father, Charles H. Gohman, on September 17, 1992 and her beloved husband of 37 years, Darwin D. German, on April 18, 2004. She is
survived by her mother, Betty Gohman; her sister Katherine Gohman and brother Charles W. Gohman; sons, Darwin II, Charles and daughter Suzanne Colleen and their respective spouses; grandchildren, Alexandra, Zachary, Aiden, Aneliese and Alayna; step granddaughters, Rebecca and Graysn; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
