Colin George Sked

73, of Mt. Baldy died Nov. 10 at home after a long illness. He was born in Ontario, Canada on May 18, 1940 and moved to California with his family in 1947. He lived in Mt. Baldy for 45 years. He had two careers, working for 20 years at Conrac Corporation from where he retired from his position as International Marketing Manager in the late 80's only to embark upon a new career as a Certified Financial Planner. He traveled all over the world during his time at Conrac.
In addition, Mr. Sked was a skilled craftsman and built custom homes and specialized in cabinetry and woodworking. He was an avid sailor and the restoration of his sailboat was but one of his many projects and passions. Other interests included, skiing, photography, ATVing, water skiing and model building.
He was very involved in the Mt. Baldy Community and served many years on the board of directors of the San Antonio Canyon Mutual Water Service providing countless hours of volunteer support. Having been an Eagle Scout himself, Mr. Sked was a Boy Scout leader as well as involved in other activities supporting the youth of Mt. Baldy.
Mr. Sked is survived by his wife Karen, his daughter Vicki Slater and her former spouse Philip Slater and grandsons Dustin and Blake. Additional surviving family includes Julie and Tom Grable and their sons Sam and Joe and Chris Mayr and his daughter Janelle.
A celebration of Mr. Sked's life and achievements will be held on Sunday, Nov.24, 2013 at the Mt. Baldy Trout Ponds from 1-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt Baldy Volunteer Fire Department or the Mt. Baldy Museum.
