1923-2013
Dr. Hooker was born in High Gate, Missouri on September 21, 1923. WWII Veteran. Attended Warner Pacific Bible College in Portland OR, 1941-1943. Met and married his college sweetheart, LaVerne Donaldson in 1943. Pastor and minister for the First Church of God (Anderson, IN) over 50 years. Started and Pastored numerous churches throughout the United States and was a prominent speaker for the church nationwide. He was a published gospel songwriter/ singer and played numerous instruments such as the piano, guitar, harmonica and organ. Dr. Hooker earned his Master's Degree in Theology at the age of 73 from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1997. He was awarded an Honorary Doctoral Degree in Theology from Southwestern Bible College and Seminary in 1999. Preceded in death by his son Jerry A. Hooker in 1971; great grandson Janda Drew Haselwood in 2003; and 3 brothers, Ken Hooker, Joe Hooker and Ron Hooker. Survived by his step-mother Lois Hooker and brother Mel (Michelle) Hooker, all of Phoenix, AZ.; wife of 69 years, La Verne Hooker, daughter Jacque (Ron) Maurer of Murfreesboro, TN; sons Rich Hooker of San Bernardino and Robert (Jennifer) Hooker of Redlands; daughter-in-law Cheryl (Larry) Kisinger of Mentone. Grandchildren include Eric (Sally) Hooker, Rhonda (Doug) Straw, Stacey (Jay) Allis, Robert (Lisa) Maurer, Jeremy Maurer, Ashley Hooker, Jared Hooker, Blake Hooker and Shannon (Chad) Haselwood. Great grandchildren include Josh (Jessica) Straw, Torry Straw, Trent Straw, Skylar Straw, Lexi Straw, Chad Maurer, Luke Maurer, Nate Maurer, Augie Canizales, Zander Haselwood, Sorin Haselwood, Jerry Hooker, Jake Hooker and Kaylee Hooker. One great, great grandchild, Carter Straw. A Memorial service will be held at The Village at Redlands on Saturday February 23 at 2 pm. 301 S. Wabash, Redlands, CA 92374. Private Internment will be held at Riverside National Cemetery.
