Jeannie Lederer, loving wife, mother, friend and colleague, passed away at home with her family by her side on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the age of 59. Jeannie is predeceased by her brother Richard Potter. She is survived by her husband, Tom and her children, Brett and Kelsey. Jeannie was born in Washington, D.C. on July 13, 1954 to Vernon and Jane Potter. She was raised in Ventura, California where she was a dedicated, competitive swimmer winning many age group, high school and collegiate competitions. After graduating from high school and attending community college, she moved to Long Beach to attend California State University Long Beach where she earned a bachelor's degree and teaching credential. She served on the faculty at Stephen Foster Elementary School in Lakewood for 23 years, teaching third and fourth grade. Jeannie and her family have lived in Lakewood for the past 26 years. She was devoted to her family and was especially proud of her children's academic and athletic achievements and the success they have achieved as adults. Jeannie loved to read and enjoyed golf, sewing, walking and kayaking. A Memorial Service for Jeannie will be held on Friday, August 9th at 7 p.m. at Monte Verde Park in Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, Jeannie's family suggests Memorial donations made in her honor to Stephen Foster School, 5223 Bigelow Street Lakewood, CA 90712 or to Long Beach Junior Golf Program, 6700 E.
