Leola Tarbutton Trexel was born near San Antonio, Texas, October 1, 1908 and died in Ajijic, Mexico about 40 miles from Guadalajara, on November 14, 2011, 103 years! Leola and her sister, Zola Verne Barneburg, lived in Ajijic the last few years of their lives, close to Zola's son, Lee Barneburg and wife, Georgia. Leola enjoyed the beauty of the area. Zola died in June 2010, leaving Leola the last surviving sibling. She was the oldest of five children and outlived all of her sisters and brothers, Zola Barneburg, Jewell Schmidt, Garland and Douglas Camp. She also outlived her two husbands, Ira Tarbutton and Vernon Trexel, as well as niece, Kitty Sinclair. Leola is survived by her nieces, Mary Lou Smith and Barbara Tuck; nephews, Lee Barneburg, George, Rodney and Larry Camp; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Emogene Trexel; step-son, Paul Trexel (Shelley); and step-grandsons, Bill and Jeff Trexel. Leola taught elementary school in the Long Beach district for many years and was a member of Chapter CR, PEO and of Grace Methodist, Leisure World Community and the Escondido Methodist Churches.
