67, of California City, CA, passed away at San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield, CA , on June 29, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie Lopez, his daughter, Melissa Lopez of California City, CA, and three sons, Matthew Lopez of California City , CA, Kenny Lopez of Roseville, CA, and Eddie and Michelle Lopez of St. Paul, MN. He also leaves behind five grand- children: Brianna, Maci, and Qiera Lopez, residing in Lincoln, CA, and Logan and Teddie Lopez, residing in St. Paul, MN.
Leonard "Lenny" Lopez was born on March 15, 1946, in Redlands, California, to Lupe and Dell Lopez. His siblings are Dale Lopez of Highland, CA, Barbara Lopez of Redlands, CA, Carol Lopez of Claremont, CA, and Kenny Lopez of Redlands, CA. Leonard graduated form Redlands High School in 1964. He was a Fullback on the Redlands High School Terriers varsity football team. After graduation he enlisted and served in the United States Army
from 1966 to 1972, including a tour in Vietnam. He married his high school sweetheart, Margie Lopez, nee: Mendoza, also born and raised in Redlands, CA at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Redlands, CA, in 1967. He graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, in 1975. He began his career in the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1974 and retired after 25 years. He continued his work in correction in the private prison sector, most recently with Corporate Correction of America. For the past 48 years, he played Santa Claus for family, friends, and all who asked or whom he felt needed a visit from the jolly, old elf with the happy eyes and warm smile. He enjoyed traveling, was a gifted painter, and also enjoyed playing the guitar, Native American flute, and wood working. A wealth of family and friends are mourning his loss and all will miss his unfailing generosity and courageous, yet gentle spirit.
A memorial service will be held at St. Malachy Parish at 407 W. "E" Street n Tehachapi, CA on July 9, 2013 at 11:30 am, with a burial ceremony at the Bakersfield National Cemetery at 30338 E. Bear Mountain Blvd. in Arvin, CA at 2pm.
