Maxwell Goldstein, M.D.
102, a longtime resident of Fontana, CA passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 in San Bernardino. He is survived by his son, Philip Goldstein of Highland, daughter, Olivia and husband William Colangelo of San Bernardino, as well as two granddaughters, Andrea and Janelle Colangelo, and a sister, Goldie Shona of Toronto, Canada. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Helen, in 1999.
Dr. Goldstein was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where he received his primary education and later his medical degree from the University of Toronto with Summa Cum Laude honors. Upon graduation he moved to Chicago, IL where he practiced medicine with his brother Morris Goldstein. He then met and married Helen Miller. Dr. Goldstein then enlisted in the U.S. Army having served in the Pacific Theatre as a surgeon during WW II. Upon his honorable military discharge, the couple moved to Fontana, CA where he established a private practice and later served as Chief of Staff at St. Bernadine's Hospital where he was instrumental in starting the Emergency Department. He also was on staff at Community Hospital and Loma Linda University Medical Center. Upon retirement after a distinguished career of over 70 years in the medical field, he enjoyed golf, listening to music and encouraging his two granddaughters with their professional careers.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Home of Eternity Cemetery, 801 N. Sierra Way, San Bernardino. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Bernadine Medical Center. Condolences may be sent on-line at www.bobbittchapel.
