Born in Halstead, Kansas, the youngest of four daughters born to Homer and Alice (Brandenberger) Popkins. She moved to California around 1958, first residing in Santa Monica and then to the San Fernando Valley, Reseda. Virginia passed away at home, peacefully in her sleep.

Virginia joined Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in 1943 in Kansas and continued her association when she moved to California, holding many offices in her 69 years of service. She was also a competitive ballroom dancer and won many awards around the state in competitions.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Bernice, Velma and Eilene; and is survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters in Beta Sigma Phi, and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Reseda, 18120 Saticoy St., Reseda, CA 91335 (at the corner of Saticoy and Lindley), 818-344-7135, with Rev. Dr. Gordon Marchant officiating. Viewing at 9:30 a.m., and the Service, including a Beta Sigma Phi Rose Memorial, will begin at 10:00 a.m., all inside the Sanctuary. A Reception will follow in the Fireside Room. Private Interment at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
