Albert K. Karnig
Albert K. Karnig, the third President of Cal State San Bernardino, passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2017. He was born on April 15, 1942 in Queens, NY, the son of Armenian immigrants. Albert married Marilyn Vogelaar on June 12, 1964. They went on to have 3 children, Todd (Tiffany), Eric (Jennifer), Brent (Amy) and 12 grandchildren: Kathleen, Megan, Erin, Tommy, Michael, Andrew, Paige, Allison, Mackenzie, Nicole, Kendall and Lauren. He is preceded in death by his parents Avedis and Aghavni and his sister Charlotte.
Albert started his career at Texas Tech as a professor of Political Science. He went on to Arizona State University where he served as the Director of the School of Public Affairs and then as the Associate Provost. Next he served as the Provost at the University of Wyoming. In 1997, he became the President of CSUSB and retired in 2012

In Albert's honor, memorials may be given to the Infant- Toddler Parenting Success Program (Community Foundation), 3700 6th street, Suite 200, Riverside, CA 92501 or The President Albert and Marilyn Karnig Scholarship Endowment, 5500 University Parkway, San Bernardino, CA 92407.
A visitation will be held at Bobbitt's Funeral Home, 1299 E. Highland Avenue, San Bernardino, CA from 5-7 PM on May 10, 2017.
A memorial service will be held at Coussoulis Arena on the campus of California State University San Bernardino, at 2 PM on May 11, 2017. A reception will immediately follow at the Legacy Fountain adjacent to the arena. Park in lot N.

Dr. Karnig was such an amazing individual and I am deeply saddened to hear about his passing. My sincerest condolences to his loved ones. I did not know him long but he was so caring in trying to contribute to worthy causes and offer professional mentorship.
