Obituary Condolences

ALBERT EDWARD CHESLEY, JR.
March 30, 1920 - November 7, 2013

Age 93, and a resident of Van Nuys, CA, passed away peacefully in his home on November 7th. Albert is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Doris Evelyn Anderson Chesley (1926 - 2012); and is survived by three children: daughters, Alison Chesley of Los Angeles, CA, and Leigh Chesley of Berkeley, CA, and son Andrew Chesley of Los Angeles; brother, Paul Chesley of Carpinteria, CA; and sister, Ruth Goff of Pontiac, MI. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage, Pam Foster of Longwood, FL and John Chesley of Arizona, as well as beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Albert lived in the San Fernando Valley for 67 years. Born in Pontiac, MI to Minnie Frances and Albert Edward Chesley, Sr., Albert moved to California in 1946 after serving as a machinist in the Navy. He earned his Bachelor's degree from San Fernando Valley State and worked as a Contract Specialist at NASA for over 35 years, supervising contracts for both the Apollo Program and the Space Shuttle missions, and where he worked with distinguished rocket scientist Wernher Von Braun.

Albert was a lifelong athlete, setting records as a miler at Pontiac High School. He continued running into his fifties, after which he walked every morning until the age of 91, often up to 3 miles. He was an avid car enthusiast, proud owner of two vintage Jaguars, the last of which he sold to purchase the home on Texhoma Avenue where he would raise his family and spend the rest of his life. He loved Southern California, cherished his family and home, and was content to spend his days there, working on his cars, tending to the yard and sitting in the sun.

Services: Tuesday, November 12th, 11:00 a.m., at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 17400 Vanowen Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91406. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lutheran Social Services, 6425 Tyrone Avenue, Van Nuys, CA 91401, www.lssccc.org
