Eleanor Anderson Seccombe
(1916 to 2014)
On February 26, 2014, the day following her 98th birthday, Eleanor passed away. She was born in Los Angeles and early on she was adopted by John W. and Mary Blanche Anderson of San Bernardino. Eleanor graduated from San Bernardino High School in the Class of 1934. In her senior year she held the lead in the Senior Class Play. Following graduation, she worked at the Harris Company in the Fountain Café where she met her future husband Gordon H. Seccombe who had been working at the Bank of America across the steet. They moved to Los Angeles where Gordon enrolled in and graduate from the University of California Dental School.
Gordon was drafted into the Army Air Corp, Dental Corp with Eleanor at his side, serving three years while being deployed in Denver, Texas and Boston. At wars end, they returned home to San Bernardino where Gordon established his second dental practice, once again with Eleanor at his side.
Upon Gordon's death in 1982, Eleanor became involved with volunteer work with Santa Claus, Inc. where she was Chairman of the Doll Bed program. In addition, she was the Chairman of the Shrine Widows group for twenty years.
The past two and half years Eleanor has lived in Valencia Terrace assisted living in Corona, where she made many new friends among the staff and residents. Her granddaughter Beth Heeres Yancu lived and worked nearby and was of invaluable assistance during her stay.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter Pat Heeres and her husband David of Sequim, Washington; her granddaughter Beth Heeres Yancu and her husband Jim of Corona, California along with her two great granddaughters, Katie Yancu and Madison Yancu; her niece Betty Romano of Redlands, California; and John (Andy) Anderson of San Bernardino, California. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Gordon age 70 and her granddaughter Kathy Heeres Keever age 31.
