Flora "Nana" McFarlane

Flora "Nana" McFarlane, 75, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2013, with her husband by her side after a long battle with cancer. Flora was born on May 29, 1938 and grew up in Paisley, Scotland where she met and married her husband, James (Jimmy ) in 1958. She immigrated to the United States in 1963 and settled in South Gate, CA raising her four children. She retired in 2012 after working almost 40 years at St. Emydius School in Lynwood, CA. She was always up for an adventure at a moment's notice. She loved cooking for her family on holidays, singing, being "Nana" to her grandchildren and was an active associate of the Holy Faith Sisters. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jimmy; daughter, Ellen (Paul) Miller of Peoria, AZ; sons, James (Margaret) of Whittier, CA, John (Aurora) of Los Angeles, CA and Tony (Susan) of Monterey, CA; and 10 grandchildren, Teresa, Jeffrey, Max, Paul, Mia, Analisa, Veronica, Nevin, Aidan and Samantha. She is also survived by her sister, Betty (Tom) Hendry of Toronto, Canada; and sister-in-law, Cathie Cairns of Adelaide, Australia; nieces, Liz Collins, Maureen Brown, Trish Hendry of Toronto, Canada and Flora Thomas of Adelaide, Australia and nephews, Ian Cairns, Gordon Millar of Adelaide, Australia and Tom Hendry of Toronto, Canada. She was preceded in death by brother, John Cairns of Adelaide, Australia; sisters, Ellen Doran of Paisley, Scotland and Margaret Millar of Adelaide, Australia. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at St John Bosco High School Chapel located at 13640 Bellflower Blvd, Bellflower, CA 90706. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at St. Dominic Savio Church located at 13400 Bellflower Blvd, Bellflower, CA 90706.
