Iris L. Keating
Was born May 3, 1931 in Garden City, KS and passed away March 13, 2013 in Veradale, WA. Graduating from Garden City High School, she went on to earn an AA Degree from Garden City Jr. College and a BS Degree from Kansas State Univ., where she met her husband, Eugene. After college, they ranched in Kansas before moving to Texas and Arizona, and then to Claremont in 1965. Iris loved the arts, training in voice and piano then moving on to explore painting, sculpture, and other media. A supporter of Girl Scouting, Iris was a troop leader for many years. Growing spectacular African violets, Iris was a Life Member of the African Violet Soc. of Am., a Master Judge, and served as Plant Registration Chairwoman for many years. She also served as Pres., VP, and Secretary for the Pomona Valley African Violet Soc., and as Pres. of the Judges Council of So. Calif. With her husband, she moved to Veradale, WA in 2006. Iris was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother. She is survived by her daughter Denise (John) Schnagl of Spokane Valley, WA, and son Kim (Rosemary) Keating of Bozeman, MT; and by her 3 grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
