POLDER, Jacob Henry (Jake)
Jacob Henry (Jake) Polder, 87, born March 6, 1926 in Montebello, CA and passed away January 12, 2014.
Resident of Whittier for 85 years. Jake graduated from Whittier High School in 1944, entering the U.S. Navy shortly after graduation. After which he attended Pasadena City College, and graduated UC Berkeley, with a degree in electrical engineering. Jake retired from the Aerospace industry after many years of service.
Surviving are wife Joy Polder, of Whittier. Daughter Judy (Tom) Weber, Castle; Sons, Dan (Janet) Polder, Oceanside; Jeff (Rhonda) Polder, Vacaville; and Tim (Joan) Polder, Murietta, all of CA.
Jake was previously married, 50 years, to Phyllis Hopping Polder, who passed in 1999. Also predeceased by two sisters, Quirina and Cornelia. Additional survivers are brother Lynn ( Liz) Polder, Hacienda Heights, CA. Four stepchildren; Phil Younger, Whittier, Helene Younger, Whittier, Bev Younger, La Mesa, and Carol (Steve) Tamanaha, Costa Mesa. Sixteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Active in many clubs and organizations, Jake was a lifetime member of the YMCA Y's Men Club, NASA (National American Sailing Association), University Club, Whittier Museum, Boy Scouts of America, and Indian Guides, to name a few. Jake was also a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church.
Jake loved to travel when he retired and was an avid joke teller and punster and will be missed by all.
Memorial service will be Sunday, January 26th, 2014, 2 pm, at the East Whittier, Presbyterian Church, 14061 E. Second Street, Whittier, CA 90605. Burial at sea will commence at a later date for immediate family members.
