Leona Parker "Tiny" McGree passed away peacefully on June 18, 2013, at the age of 102. Tiny was born in Ontario, California on May 28, 1911. She later moved to San Pedro with her parents Leon and Margaret Parker and her sisters, Bany and Edie. She graduated from San Pedro High School in 1926 and later received a degree in nursing. She married William "Bill" McGree, on June 18, 1932. Bill worked as a firefighter for the City of Long Beach for more than 30 years, retiring in 1960 as Deputy Chief. During his tenure with the Department, Tiny was active and served as the president of the Women's Auxiliary. She and Bill lived and raised their family in Long Beach but ultimately settled in Palm Desert, where they lived when Bill passed in 1993. Bill was the love of her life, and it was only fitting that she passed on the day that would have been their 81st wedding anniversary. Tiny enjoyed socializing with friends, cooking, playing cards, golfing and traveling. Always the consummate hostess, with her "face on" at all times, she was well-known for her perfect silver hair and her gorgeous red nails. Tiny's love for her friends and family, her elegance, and her sense of humor will be missed and cherished by all of those she touched. Tiny is survived by her daughter, Sharon Robertson of Sherwood, Oregon, and predeceased by her son, Leon "Dick" McGree of Long Beach, as well as her husband, parents and siblings. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Mark Place of Whidbey Island, Washington, Kurt Place of Wilsonville, Oregon, Kathleen Houston of Seal Beach, Kerry McDaid of Mission Viejo, and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial will be held at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes on Tuesday, June 25th at 2:30 p.m. A celebration of her life will follow at the Long Beach Yacht Club for family and friends.
