Theresa Monica (Shelley) Latimer
Passed away at the age of 95 on Wednesday, November 27th, 2013. Theresa was born in the Parish of Roscommon, Ireland on June 6, 1918. Her family came to the United States in 1920 where they settled in Roseville, CA. Theresa's father became one of the first members of the Roseville Police Department. A few years later her father went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Theresa, upon graduation from Roseville High School in 1936 attended and graduated from business school and also became employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad as a clerk. At the outbreak of WWII, Theresa enlisted in the Women's Marine Corp. and after boot camp she was assigned as a clerk typist in San Francisco. At the end of the war she married Byron Latimer a Marine. After the war she, her husband, and daughter Patricia were stationed in Hawaii. At the end of the Korean Conflict, her husband retired from the Marines and they moved to San Bernardino where they lived for over 50 years.
Theresa was active in the NAFB Retired Officer's Wives Club, the American Legion Post 777, the San Bernardino Women's Club, The Public Employees Retirement Group, The Emblem Club with Elks BPOE #0836. Upon retirement, Theresa's husband became the building superintendent for The Sun newspaper. Theresa had worked as a civil servant clerk for NAFB, Patton State Hospital, in the mayor's office for the City of San Bernardino and also The Sun newspaper. Theresa was a State Delegate for the Democratic Party. Theresa was a member of St. Anne Church in Highland/San Bernardino and also Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral in San Bernardino. Theresa was preceded in death by her husband Byron and her daughter Patricia.
A Vigil will be held at Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, 1299 E. Highland Ave., San Bernardino on Monday December 9th, 2013 at 6:00PM. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, 2525 N. Arrowhead Ave., San Bernardino on Dec 10th at 12:00PM. Interment will follow at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, California at 2PM. On line condolences may be left to www.bobbittchapel.com
