Vernia Rita Reed was born in 1919 to Christina Pink and Edmund Pohlmann and raised on a ranch in Anaheim, CA with her brother, Sherrill; twins, Wilda May (Wiebe) and Willard LeRoy and sister, Velma Arline (Neuman). She graduated from Anaheim Union High School. She was a member of the St Boniface Church, president of the Young Ladies Institute and a devote Catholic her entire life. Vernia met her husband Walt during WWII while working at Douglas Aircraft. She was a model for Wilma Hastings Fashions and she worked at the Post Office each year during the Christmas rush. As newlyweds, Vernia and Walt lived in Belmont Shores but soon moved to Theresa St and finally to Los Altos. As a mother and grandmother she was a strong supporter, although never afraid to let her opinion be heard. Vernia loved golfing and was a member of the Ladies Association at Heartwell, El Dorado and Recreation golf courses. She and Walt golfed their way around the world. She cherished her friends at the Lady ABS. (Alamitos Bay Sportsmen's Club) She will be missed by her daughters Christina Reed, Kathryn Ewell and Trish Moyer but was preceded in death by her husband and son, James D Reed. Funeral Mass Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Long Beach. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in the city of Orange.
