Jose Martinez, Jr.
88, passed away on September 15, 2013 at San Antonio Hospital in Upland, CA. He was born on October 24, 1924 to Jose and Anita Martinez.
He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was a Veteran of WWII, stationed on the USS Savo Island, where he was awarded several Campaign Medals and the Presidential Unit Citation. He retired from Santa Fe as a Railroad Roadmaster where he worked for 45 years. He was the first Hispanic to become a Roadmaster and set the precedence for other Hispanics in the industry.
Jose was a member and one year president of Al Malaikah Shrine of Apple Valley where he received the Hiram Award. He enjoyed being with his family and was a sports enthusiast. He was an avid, dedicated Laker and Dodger fan.
Jose is survived by his children, Susan Arrieta of Upland, CA and Lydia Goodman of Keller, TX, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Lily Martinez, and daughter, Delphina Campos.
A private graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
