Joseph "Joe" Louis Uhalley
Former Chief of Fontana Police Department, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Joe would have been 80 years of age in one month, on April 20.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Joe was born in 1934 to parents Julia and Stephen Uhalley. His family moved to Fontana when Joe was 12 years old, where he was a resident of the city for more than 67 years. Joe was an outdoorsman his entire life, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to play golf, and enjoyed travelling. He loved to read and was usually never without a good book. Joe was an outstanding marksman, a skill highly valued in his career in law enforcement. He served as one of Fontana's finest from 1957 through 1981. Joe was Chief of the department from 1970 until 1981. He will always be remembered as a beloved leader and a positive influence in the community.
In Joe's passing, he leaves his loving wife, Shirley, as well as his beloved daughters, Lisa and Kris. Missing their grandfather are Andrea, Lynette, Aaron, and Jason. He is survived by brothers; Charles (Connie), Stephen Jr. (Joan), Frank (Carmen) and Bill, as well as one sister, Mariana Falgout. Joe also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren, as well as many extended family members, and countless friends, and he was a wonderful role model. He was a positive influence in many lives, and he will be remembered with respect and admiration by all who knew him. His passing is a loss for an entire city.
Visitation will be on Thursday March 27, 2014 from 5pm- 9pm at Ingold Funeral Chapel, 8277 Juniper Ave.- Fontana.
Funeral mass along with full police honors will be held the following day, Friday, March 28, 2014, 1pm St. Joseph Catholic Church- 17080 Arrow Blvd.- Fontana. Joe will escorted in formal procession to his final resting place by his former colleagues to Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington. Service & direction are entrusted to Ingold Funeral Chapel in Fontana.
