BILL SAMUEL THOMPSON Age 75, of San Bernardino, passed away on December 4, 2009. He was born on September 10, 1934, in Paushuska, Oklahoma, and lived in San Bernardino for 65 years. He was in the Marines. He worked as a machinist for the Santa Fe Railroad. He graduated from the police academy and became a patrolman for the Rialto Police Department, and was a Deputy Sheriff in the Victorville office, and later a Sergeant. He was also a certified umpire and referee for adult and high school baseball, football and basketball. He was a state competitor in handball and received many awards. He played against other deputies and earned police Olympic medals. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Rotary Club. After serving in law enforcement, he worked as a car salesman. Bill was a member of Colton Christian Church. He enjoyed watching and listening to a great variety of music and would sit for hours listening and reminiscing about all the old songs. He knew who wrote them, what year they were written and who first performed them. His knowledge of music was remarkable. In addition, his knowledge of the bible was immense. He could quote you chapter and verse for almost any subject in the bible. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte of San Bernardino; one son, Jon Thompson of Everett, WA; two daughters, Julie and Janis; one brother, Charlie Thompson of Highland; two sisters, Lilly and Caroline, both of Oklahom a. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jennie. A Granddaughter, Brittney Thompson of Everett, WA, and numerous other grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009, 11:00 A.M. at Colton Christian Church, 905 E. Olive St., Colton, California. Jim Spellman will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , Diabetes Foundation or S.E.A.T. - (Sheriff's Employee Assistance Team) A local foundation that supports families of Pol ice Officers killed in the line of duty.
