Born to Dave and Delah, in Oberlin, LA on 12-28-1923 and joined his wife Lavern of 64 years in eternal slumber on 12-13-2011 in Fontana, CA. He was a member of our "Greatest Generation" as he served his country as Master Tech Sergeant in the USMC from 1941 to 1950 in the Pacific Theater as aircraft mechanic. Smedley enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends all over the western US. He had wide variety of interests from aircraft, metal detecting and treasure hunting. He worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator all his life. He is survived by sisters Lois Singleton of Mittie, LA, and Onita Meyers of Sulphur, LA, sons Ivan (Bonnie), Wayne, and Bill of Fontana, Gary (Darla) of Newcastle, Sherida Gaylene Heasley (Larry) of San Bernardino, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren many nieces, nephews and friends . He was a devoted father and brother. A life celebration will be held on Monday Dec. 19th at Dickey Morturary, 8030 Mango Ave. in Fontana at 11:00 AM. The family requests that donations be made to a Veterans
in lieu of flowers. Interment will be private at Riverside National Cemetery.
