DROOKS, Baalah Fishler
Baalah Fishler Drooks, 85, passed away December 2, 2012 in Covina, CA after a brief illness. Born in Salt Lake City, UT and buried December 15th next to her husband in Bountiful, UT.
She had a lifelong pursuit of education and was proud of her numerous nursing degrees. She received a BS in Nursing Education at University of Utah and moved to Los Angeles to work at the Veteran's Hospital where she met her husband, Morris Paul Drooks.
They raised their five children in West Covina. She worked as a school nurse in Baldwin Park and for 23 years in Bassett Unified School District. She earned a M.A. in Health Sciences and a Public Health Certificate at Cal State L.A. She later earned a M.S.N. at Long Beach State becoming a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She volunteered on several Health Advisory Boards and volunteered at the Health Department to help bring services to children of the community.
She was involved in civic affairs to improve the community and most recently with the 'Friends of the Library' campaign to keep the open space at the civic center.
Preceding her in death were siblings Virginia, Kenneth, Benjamin, Mildred and Audrey.
Survived by her brother Stanley Fishler (Darlene), children: Philip (Greta), Rebecca (Marc Shur), Amy, Paul and Sarah; grandchildren Aaron, Gabrielle, Julian, Keenan and Sophia.
