Matthew Pursel, 50, passed away on
November 14th 2012 after a nine month battle with Burkett's Lymphoma. Matt was born in Pasadena CA on September 15, 1962 and attended Pasadena Unified Schools and Pasadena City College before graduating from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Academy. Matt worked several years as a deputy sheriff serving La Crescenta, La Canada and Altadena communities. Matt achieved a Distinguished Expert weapons rating and also served as a training deputy before retiring in 1993. An accomplished pilot, he later worked as a helicopter flight instructor at Zamparini field in Torrance CA.
In 2001, he moved his family to Cape Coral FL and attained his goal of living on the water
where he could fish and boat from his backyard. Matt will be well remembered for his exquisitely wicked sense of humor and his brilliant interpretation of the world. Preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Anne Pursel . Survived by his daughter Arianna Pursel, son Austin Pursel of Cape Coral, FL and sisters Kathy and Jeanne Pursel and niece Hope Pursel of Pasadena. Services to be held Saturday, January 19th 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Altadena Baptist Church, 791 E. Calaveras, Altadena, CA 91001.
