Maria de Jesus Cevallos was born on March 24, 1925, in Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit, Mexico. Her parents, Gregorio and Maria de Jesus Cevallos, were pharmacists and operated La Botica del Pueblo in the center of town. Her older brothers were Alfonso, Gregorio and Francisco. Maria and her brothers received their elementary school education in Santiago Ixcuintla, their secondary education (preparatoria) in the state capital at Tepic and attended university in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Maria completed her doctorate in April 1951 and received her title as "Medico Cirujano Dentista" conferred by the faculty of the school of medicine of La Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara.
After graduation Maria traveled to Los Angeles for an extended visit. She met Ralph Villalobos and they married in February 1954. They moved to their current home and Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in 1960. They had 5 children and all graduated from the elementary school there. Their life centered on the parish and their children's activities.

The cornerstones of Maria's life were her Roman Catholic faith, her family and her community. She was independent, strongly opinionated and was a life-long optimist.
Maria's nickname since childhood was "Chuy" or "Chuyita." She was her children's "Mama Chuy" and grandchildren's "Grandma Chuy" or "Grandma Chewy."
In retirement Maria embraced "senior life" and activities. Maria died on February 5 after spending the morning at her Senior Center, socializing with friends and enjoying a good lunch. She returned home, took a nap and never woke up. Her passing was blessed and peaceful.
