Purviance, Caroline Sue

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, Caroline Sue Purviance (Nielsen), 61, was taken from us the evening of February 13th 2013.
Sue was born in Monrovia on February 2nd 1952. She graduated from Monrovia High School in 1969. She attended Citrus College and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1976.
In 1973 she married William Purviance. They lived in Arcadia where they had their first daughter, Katy, then in Temple City, where they had their only son, Billy. The family moved to Saugus in 1982 where they had three more children, Lila, Lisa, and Laura.
She loved singing in the Santa Clarita Master Chorale and the Santa Clarita United Methodist Church choir.
Sue's greatest vocation was her five children, whom she raised with love and generosity. Once her children were older, Sue worked as an instructional assistant at high schools in Saugus, Valencia, and Canyon Country for nearly five years. She also worked a variety of nursing jobs.
She divorced in 2003. After living in the Santa Clarita Valley for 26 years, Sue moved to Glendale to be closer to her beloved granddaughter, Sophia. Sue most recently lived in Burbank where she was able to see Sophia almost daily.
Sue was known for her playfulness and mischievousness. She was a veritable giving tree to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Sue is preceded in death by her brother, Norman Nielsen, and her parents, Blanche (Faye) and Norman Nielsen. She is survived by her granddaughter Sophia Satterfield; her daughters Katy Purviance, Lila Satterfield, Lisa Purviance, and Laura Purviance; her son Billy Purviance; her brother Don-Martin Nielsen; her sister Joanne Johnson; her best friend Lauren Santos, and many other friends and colleagues.
The Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena on Saturday, March 2nd at 2pm. All Saints Episcopal Church is located at 132 N. Euclid Avenue, Pasadena - directly across from the Pasadena City Hall. All are welcome.
