Allan Small deFrates
.A WWII Marine who fought for his country on Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, also serving in Korea, Allan Small de Frates, entered into eternal life on March 17, 2013. Born in Portland, Maine, on February 18, 1919, Allan spent his early years on Martha's Vineyard. He later entered and graduated from Cranston High School in Rhode Island. He then entered the Marine Corps at age 21. In 1948, he moved to Long Beach and studied electronic engineering at USC, which enabled him to begin his career as an aerospace engineer at Douglas Aircraft Company. He leaves behind his loving wife, Dorothy of 61 years; his daughters, Cheryl de Gomez and Connie Doss; and his sons, Allan Charles and Ronald, and ten grandchildren.
