Carmela (Carmen) De Zan

Carmela De Zan, a sixty-five year resident of Fontana, CA passed away peacefully at her home May 16, 2013 at the age of 96.
She was born in Duronia, Italy on February 6, 1917 and immigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen. She settled in Michigan with her father Felix Ricciuti. A couple of years later they were joined by her mother Angela and younger brother Sam in Michigan where her sister Elizabeth was born. The family moved west in 1945. They initially lived in Glendale, CA settling finally in Fontana in 1948. It was in Fontana that she met Celeste De Zan. The couple married in 1951and and built a house where she lived for the remainder of her life. They had two sons, Celeste Jr. in 1952 and Domenic in 1955. Carmela was a talented seamstress and tailor. She loved to cook and bake and she did it so well. She was an avid flower, fruit and vegetable gardener and didn't like to see food wasted. She made preserves and jams, as well as canned and dried vegetables and fruits for later use and to give to family and friends.
Carmela is survived by her two sons Celeste Jr. and Domenic. She is also survived by her brother Sam Ricciuti, sister Elizabeth Gelfand, and two grandchildren, Anthony and Sarah DeZan.
Service and viewing will be Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 5:00 pm at the Green Acres Mortuary Chapel on Cedar Avenue in Bloomington. The graveside service and internment will be the following day, Friday, May 24 at 2:30 pm at Green Acres Memorial Park also on Cedar Avenue in Bloomington.
