Anita (Annie) Trevino Martinez
Peacefully slipped into the hands of the Lord in her home on August 13, 2013. She was born in Redlands on April 30, 1915. She was the fifth child of Gavino and Diega Villanueva Trevino. Her parents emigrated from Mexico to Redlands in the 1890's. Annie was preceded in death by her five siblings. Annie worked at various jobs during her lifetime; she was an orange packer for the Redlands citrus industry, she worked at Norton Air Base during World War II, she worked in housekeeping at Redlands Community Hospital, she was one of the first teachers' aides hired by Redlands Unified. Annie was a member of Community Presbyterian Church formerly the El Divino Salvador. Her parents were instrumental in establishing the first congregation of El Divino Salvador in 1913. Annie is survived by six children; Emily Robinson (Robbie) of Paradise, CA. Edward Gonzales (Mary), Rosemary Stubbs (Mike), Olivia Knudsen (Jim), Kathy Ortiz and David J. Martinez (Nadine) all of Redlands. Her late husband Joseph S. Martinez called her to join him to be with the Lord 15 years after his death. Annie was a generous and loving grandmother of 17 and the great- grandmother of 28, the great-great-grandmother of 8. Knitting was her hobby and she made sure that each and every grandchild had a knitted sweater, blanket or cap! She also enjoyed crocheting; she was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in her garden. She leaves behind her faithful, devoted and beloved companion, Penny, her mini Dachshund. Annie was a wonderful mother and matriarch of the Martinez and Trevino Families. She was an aunt to many nieces and nephews and cherished by all. We will miss you forever Mom. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, 320 W. Union Avenue, Redlands, 92374. A Memorial service will be held at Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Avenue, Redlands on Tuesday, August 20 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Community Presbyterian Church.
