Dienst, Stewart Margaret (Peggy)
Margaret (Peggy) Stewart Dienst of
Pasadena, 82, passed away on September 29, 2013, after a struggle with lung cancer. She is survived by her sons Stewart of Gatesville, TX, Sedge of San Francisco, CA, and Richard of Rocky Hill, NJ, and her three grandchildren, Callie, Christopher, and Cara. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Carl S. Dienst.
Peggy was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 9, 1931, grew up in Kansas, Minnesota, and North Carolina, and graduated from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). She raised her children with love as the family moved from Kentucky to Minnesota to California. All along the way she was active in the church, gave her time and talents to volunteer organizations, and made new lifelong friends. As her children grew older, she worked outside the home for a number of years, including human relations positions for the County of Alameda and the Los Angeles County Transit Authority. Starting in 1984, she served as a volunteer docent at the Huntington Library for many years, and later, after a stroke, she continued to work in the information booth. In addition, she was a Fellow in the Huntington's Society of Fellows since 1997. Peggy was an energetic supporter of Hillsides in Pasadena, playing many volunteer roles in the organization, including serving as a member of the Guild for 25 years.
Peggy was loved and cherished by her family, her many friends in Southern California and across the country, her fellow residents of Villa Gardens, and her fellow parishioners at St. Edmund's Episcopal Church, San Marino. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated for her at St. Edmund's at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 4.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hillsides:
